Is being a Witch a trend?

For many of us lifelong witches the recent flood of this “Woke Spiritual Trend”, leaves some of us feeling misinterpreted and a temporary fashion statement. Are we just another trend, like this seasons Gucci bag? Or are our practices becoming acceptable in a heavily suppressed Catholic society?! In this article I want to discuss the Pros and Cons of having the “entertainment” industry make us a trend.

The cons of this recent trend of being a hip witch. Basic knowledge of the practice is never really expressed in these movies and television shows. Have you ever noticed no real practice is represented in these shows? And if they are it only expresses the most extreme of Vodou or Santo. Thus causing everything to be mixed, misconstrued, and even seemingly cruel. In the spiritual community one must understand just like organized religion we to have many forms of denominations. So unfortunately people that feel the pull to practice often decide to play with forces they do not completely understand. In most cases, I find most individuals just scared themselves but in some cases it does cause and effect that require a spiritual clean-up crew, to say the least. Another issue with the entertainment industry representing our practice is using deities and representing them as evil. I won’t lie I watch a lot of these shows myself and find myself annoyed by these misconceptions. And yet I still watch! One of the worst was Papa Legba in a very popular TV series. He was portrayed as a coke sniffing baby stealing trickster! This was a foul unusual play on his true nature. For entertainment purposes yes I can see why over dramatizing the true nature to make a story more appealing but this information can be misleading for our trend followers.

The pros to this witchy trend. Many of us have magic dormant living inside us and are scared to live in our truth. This sudden trend awakens and stirs at that ancestral echoes that ripple through the universe inside of each one of us. As I feel that it is great to fine your spiritual purpose and walk the path of enlightenment, it is also one that requires great care, time, and a great deal of devotion. And most of all a proper teacher to help answer questions and guide you.

Don’t get me wrong I partake in watching the shows but solely for entertainment purposes. As for the mini kits I find in certain trendy clothing stores with sage, candles, etc. I honestly don’t find them harmful but I think they are cute and convenient for those of us who don’t really want to practice witchcraft but just like to adopt light spiritual habits to help ease the energies. This is harmless. I do think that we need to be mindful of reality and respect for tradition.

I have come to the conclusion that this recent trend was needed for those of us feeling repressed by society religious construct of what’s acceptable. Just advice to the wise be mindful of your magic.

I’m humbled, happy, and WHOLE... Being crowned was more than a ritual for me it was a lifelong dream. And everything I have ever been through all makes sense. Every obstacle, every blessing was the road leading to my destination.
