Meteors and Magick

This year, the Eta Aquarid meteor shower (May 4-6) is expected to provide the greatest amount of meteors in the early hours of May 5th. This is a perfect time to see the spectacular show as it is also the time of the new moon (May 4th). Due to the increased darkness, the sky should be perfect for viewing what is predicted to be an incredible astronomical event and show.

To find the best view during the pre-dawn hours, look for the Aquarius constellation. This is the shower's radiant point or visual point of origin. You can expect to see, especially in the southern hemisphere, on average, between 10 and 40 meteors per hour!!!

Here's a fun fact:
Did you know the Eta Aquariid meteor shower's source is none other than Halley's comet!! As the earth passes through the orbital path of the infamous comet, the debris it leaves behind hits the earths upper atmosphere at incredible speeds causing the effect we all love to gaze upon with awe and wonder.

The use of witchcraft or magick and "shooting stars" dates back to times long since past. In all the years i've been studying and practicing witchcraft, i believe the early practitioners of sympathetic magick would have seen the showers as either the coming of great luck and abundance or a foreboding of a grim future. As our collective knowledge expanded, we began to see these phenomenon for what they are; a naturally occurring event . As witches, we yearn for an understanding of all things natural and, as is our way, we learn to use the energy of these natural occurrences to help bring about wanted or needed change.

For this particular shower, we have many elements at our disposal. First, the new moon. A time for new beginnings. Then the shower itself, bringing luck and positive, forward moving energy. Then, you have the sign of the radiant point, Aquarius, the water bearer. Qualities to concentrate on could be personal contribution and giving for growth or doing something with our spirituality. Perhaps a contribution to a collective. you may also concentrate on progressiveness, invention, humanitarian causes and embracing your unconventional side. All of these points can be used for ritual and spellwork. how you choose to absorb, concentrate on and use these energies and aspects is as individual as the witch using them. There is no right or wrong way as long as intention is clear.

ENJOY THE SHOW!!!!! love and light to all.
