Before I get into the properties of lavender, I’d like to tell you a little bit about the history behind it! Lavender is part of the mint family & it gets its name from the latin meaning ‘to wash’. The plant was first farmed the & its distilled oils in the Mediterranean, Middle East and India over 2500 years ago! The Romans used it to scent their baths, beds, clothes, and sometimes their hair. In ancient Egypt they used it as part of the mummification process. It was the Greeks as well as traded to England. It was heard that Cleopatra used its fragrance in her grand seductions! There’s a folklore told that four thieves when captured admitted the brew allowed them to burglarize the houses of plague victims without catching the disease themselves. When finally captured, they offered to trade their recipe in exchange for leniency.
Now onto the properties of lavender! Lavender oil can be used as disinfectant, an antiseptic, an anti-inflammatory and for aromatherapy! If you get a dried satchel of the herb, it keeps pests away from your clothes. Lavender's amazing in an oil roll or diffuser to relieve headaches. You can also use it to help lessen muscle pain and sprains. It helps heal minor burns and bug bites. And, my favorite property is that it attracts love! It also helps with anxiety, insomnia, & clearing the mind, body, and soul. It reduces irritability, apprehension, nervous tension, nightmares, and it is balancing to the psyche. Some other uses are that you can use it for fungal infections & hair loss! There are so many more properties to this amazing plant but it would take me many many hours to tell you all of them.
