If you live in the Northern Hemisphere then I’m sure you are preparing for the up and coming celebration of Beltane on May 1st. Beltane, being the peak of spring and the beginning of summer, is a powerful time used to celebrate life, love, passion, sexuality, & fertility. Earth energies are at their strongest and most active during this time, and LOOK AROUND! Everything is bursting with life to celebrate! Every blade of grass to every tree is overflowing with energy that YOU as a witch can honor and work with! I’m going to give you a few ideas on how to celebrate Beltane from ritual baths, working with the fae, to the very fun jumping of the balefire this day is known for.
As a green witch, ritual baths are a weekly thing for me. You can easily incorporate all elements, put your mind to rest, soak in the healing properties of earth, and become one with the spirit of the plants that are sacrificing their lifeforce to help you along your path. This is how I plan to start my morning on May 1st!
What you will need:
Step by Step:
Now that we have started our day off correctly it’s time to play with the fae! As we are celebrating the life of spring and summer this means the faeries are EVERYWHERE and they LOVE a celebration. To heighten your chances of glimpsing these magical creatures I would suggest leaving them an offering! They are very shy and weary of humans, but with time and showing you care they eventually come out of hiding and can be an extremely helpful hand in your witchcraft. Any form of offering will do because it’s the thought that counts but they DO have favorites and I will give you the inside scoop on what I will be offering my faerie friends!
Faerie Offering Items:
To make sure that you are attracting them to your home to find the offering I suggest making a special place for them in your garden. Create a hut from natural elements under a bush or tucked beside a tree. They also love music and dancing so have fun while putting this together for them! Leave a bell or have a windchime nearby for their own merriment.
Finish your evening with jumping over the balefire! This can be a fun affair that you should invite your family and friends to join in on. Jumping over the fire represents purification and summer blessings. Don’t feel like jumping? Dancing counterclockwise around the flames is just as honorable! Sacred woods and dried herbs are usually the offering to the fire so I will list the wood and herbs that if you shall find, you should use.
WOODS: oak, apple, hawthorn, birch, elder, ash, blackthorn, grape vine, mountain ash (rowan), holly, willow, cedar, yew, and hemlock
HERBS: ANY YOU HAVE ON HAND WILL DO. We are celebrating the growth of spring into summer after all!
I sincerely hope that you found some magical ideas from above and have a Blessed Beltane
