April 2019 has a few new tricks up its sleeve this year...
It's important to note that, before we dive into the inner workings of the celestial bodies, that according to numerology. we're in a 12/3 global year; a time when we are being asked to analyze the past and search for new truths in old lessons. 12 is the number associated with the Hanged Man in tarot, a card that shows us how our experiences change our world view, and how that view can be wildly different from the person next to us. So this is a year where we are being called to learn through experience, to remain curious, to recognize that everyone has a different world view and that that view is their truth.
So analyzing and reflecting on the past and present is divinely guided, that's to say that it will feel good if you lean into it. We have autonomy, leaning into the vibes of the planets, numbers, tarot cards is always completely up to the individual. The path will always be there waiting. Let's find out what's waiting for us in April.
I'm beyond fascinated by the idea that Aries season begins and ends with Libra full moons, and with what sort of omen that is for this Zodiac year?
A Zodiac year begins on March 20th, as the sun shifts from 30 degrees Pisces to 0 degrees Aries. This happens in tandem with the season of Spring up here in the northern part of Earth. Astrology was born in many different ancient civilizations, all of them above the equator, so its no wonder that the beginning of the Zodiac coincides with the time of year where things begin again with vigor, passion, and excitement.
Aries, much like Spring time itself, is all about passion projects, playing outside, and living life to the fullest. Libra, the sign 180 degrees away (aka in opposition, aka its polarity) from Aries, is the sign of partnerships, fighting for justice, and creating a world with more harmony and beauty. So what could it possibly mean to start the Zodiac year off with 2 Libra moons?
Well, a full moon in any sign is a time to release that which no longer serves you. Release the outdated stories you tell yourself. Release the old habits. Release the friend, job, or expectation. It's a time when we get to shed our skin and get a mini do over. So a Libra full moon is asking us to figure out what we need to release in order to create more space for harmony and harmonious partnerships.
That first Libra full moon happened when we we're all still floundering under Mercury retrograde. I know it wasn't just me who felt the deep emotional burdens of a Pisces Mercury retrograde, right? Understandably, it's hard to release baggage when all you can do is feel it so intensely. So, the second full moon in Libra is an opportunity to try it all again.
The Libra full moons are asking us the release that which is holding us back in terms of our relationships. Release that which doesn't add harmony and beauty to your life. The repetition of the Libra full moon means that this lesson is going to take us a hot minute to integrate. Lessons continue to show up in your life until you learn them.
Jupiter is in freedom loving Sagittarius right now, and on the 10th that big beautiful planet will be retrograde. It will be retrograde until August 11th, 4 whole months of Jove moonwalking away from us in the sky!
Pluto, who has been hanging out with his old friend Capricorn as of late, will station retrograde on the 24th and will be doing its backwards dance until October 3rd. Now, to be fair, Pluto spends about 40% of its time retrograde, so this isn't our first dark and deadly rodeo.
However, on April 30th Saturn, who feels all nice and cosy in its home sign of Capricorn, will station to be retrograde on the 30th of the month. Father time will be running backwards away from its problems until September 18th.
I don't know about you, but as soon as I looked at the transits and saw all of this double full moon retrograde extravaganza non sense I had to sit down and figure out what the hell this means for us mere mortals.
Retrogrades get a bad rep when in actuality they are beautiful periods of time in which we are asked to grow, learn, and expand beyond the limitations we have created for ourselves. Each retrograde brings a new flavor and a new lesson to the forefront. Some retrogrades go without a hitch and some have us hitching up our lives to a completely new wagon. So when the planet of optimism and higher education, the planet of destruction and rebirth, and the planet of responsibility and time, all pull away from us within a 20 day period, what's a kid to do?
There's no one right or wrong answer here since we are all complex humans with intricate charts and lives. Look at where the planets are transiting in your chart to get a better idea. Where do you have Sagittarius and Capricorn? These are the places in your life that will be affected. For me those signs straddle my 10th, 11th, and 12th houses meaning that my contribution to the collective and my public standing are coming into a questioning and shifting period.
On a more global scale we'll be reevaluating the way we view and use money. Some of us will quit or be laid off from jobs that no longer serve us. There will be a rising of energy surrounding the disappointment we feel with those that are in power in the world at large, which can be an uncomfortable feeling but if you're here right now reading this then you know that change comes when we get uncomfortable. With Jupiter and Pluto retrograde in tandem this is just the push we need as a society to continue the fight against the patriarchy and the effects of toxic masculinity. Energy is best when balanced and a retrograde is a time when imbalances come to the forefront in an often harsh way.
A lot of karmic stuff is going to come up, people will ultimately get what is coming to them. There are going to be a lot of sobering reality checks. Think about your boundaries, are they helping or hindering you now? Boundaries are so necessary but they need to be reevaluated every so often. Sometime we build a boundary that helps us heal, only to find that later on it causes more harm than good.
Ultimately, in 2019 far too many people cower in fear at the name retrograde but this planetary aspect is so much more complex than internet culture gives it credit for. And truthfully, they've been happening forever! We've survived every one thus far, so you should not be afraid of the months to come. You should be aware that the Universe is constantly calling on us to grow and expand beyond what we can imagine right now. Trust in your ability to heal. Trust in the journey.

Spring time; a time when things bloom and grow and people stretch their arms up towards the sky, soaking in the long lost vitamin D (for those of us up here above the Equator). There's a magickal sort of hope that sneaks into our souls when the sun returns to us. Perhaps the changing of seasons is the beginning and end of all the magick we do here on this Earthy plane.
This April comes to us with dire lessons to teach. These lessons can only come from experience, from broken hearts and stubbed toes. These lessons can be earth shattering, life debilitating, but ultimately are exactly what you need. Think of it as a spring cleaning of the soul!
April 2019 vibrates to the number 16/7
7 is the number of mysticism. It's the guru number, and any guru worth their weight will tell you that the most powerful spiritual reactivations begin in chaos. 16/7 is the number associated with the tarot card The Tower, the often dreaded card that speaks to the often violent way in which our personal growth journeys move us.
April will be a time of change. For some of us it will be change on the physical plane: sickness, changing jobs or homes, break ups and letdowns. For others it will be spiritual change, deep shadow work as a means of ascension. While this can be an intimidating vibration to live under for sure, I can't help but feel excited for the grand leaps and shifts we will be experiencing as a collective. And if you're reading this, if your path has lead you to this website and blog, then you are likely already deeply invested into your own personal growth. Allow this month to be a time of replanting, especially if you've been in a spiritual funk or plateau.
Quite a few planets will be retrograde starting in April; Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn. The more we study these artistic sciences the more you'll find that none of what happens here is coincidental. We are like snakes shedding our old skin. If you try to hold on too tightly to anything in April you will be met with resistance. Much like the classic figures in The Tower falling towards the ground, sometimes all we can do is ride the ride and do our best to survive. We'll be stronger by the time we hit the ground again.
5th, 21/3 new moon in aries
This is a beautiful vibration to bring in the first new moon of the Zodical year! 21/3 is the number of seamless transition. This is a time to briefly reflect on the past while we keep our eyes turned towards the future. We expand through experience and this is a day of expansion.
The number 3 asks us to learn, grow, explore our neighborhood, talk to friends and strangers, and feed our childlike curiosity. 21/3 specifically notes the blurred line of endings and beginnings, standing upon the precipice of a brave new endeavor. Make the leap today, the ground will catch your fall.
15th, 31/4 merc shadow ends
Mercury's shadow may be over today, but the disagreements of this first 2019 retrograde will leave us all with our shackles up. If you've been waiting to chew someone's head off, today is the day you might just pop off, accidentally or not. Everyone is going to be feeling like they're a knight who needs to protect their castle and keep.
4 is the number of foundations and stability, so everyone's end goal is just to feel safe and secure. If that's what we're all fighting for then maybe we can be a bit kinder in our approach. Everyone has something they want to protect, not everyone is out here trying to steal from you. Reflect on what you want to protect, why you want to protect it, and how you can protect it in a non voilent way.
19th, 35/8 2nd Libra full moon
Libra, the sign of balance and harmony, is enhanced by the number 8 on this day. The number 8 is the sibling of the lemiscate, aka the infinity symbol. This is a symbol of all things being one, as above so below, and any other saying of the like.
It's not every year that Aries season is book ended by full moons, and let us not forget that this is still just the beginning of the Zodiac year. So what does it all mean?
In simple terms, we're going to be tired on this day. Aries is a season full of daring adventures and wild, hardly thought out, plans. Add two full moons and you've got an intense 30 days! 35/8 is the number that represents using your last stores of energy, and that is indeed what this moon phase is asking us to do: just keep on keepin' on.
This, like all 8 vibrations, is a time of karma. Did you release what you needed to release on the first Libra full moon of the year? If not, the Universe may very well put some big lessons in your path. Release that which no longer brings harmony, balance, or fairness to your life.
20th, 36/9 sun in taurus, Aries Venus?
This is such a perfect vibe to usher us into Taurus season. It's the culmination of fire energy and the ending of cycles as the sun teeter toters between the final degrees of Aries and that first degree of Taurus.
9 is the number of completion, endings, beginning, humanitarianism, and higher education. This specific vibration is about wrapping up creative projects, saying sorry to anyone who got burned in the past few weeks, volunteering at an animal hospital (this was an intuitive download so I don't know who needed to hear it, but it was for you), and getting ready to relax a little bit. This energy is really good for getting all those last minute things done. It's along exhale, the ending sigh ushering us into Taurus season.
21st, 37/1 easter
We all know that Easter was taken from the pagans. I mean, how do you explain the use of eggs and rabbits as the iconography? Or why it's the only holiday that is dependent on the moon phases? I digress, those of us around the world who live in a Westernized country likely spent their childhoods eating chocolate and trying to out smart their siblings in the egg hunt. At the end of the day it's a time to spend with family, birth given or chosen, and I can get behind that!
Oh, and what a perfect vibration to live into that day! 37/1 is all about family love, group healing, and spending time with those that respect your journey and guide you further along the path. Basically, today will be a good day to go outside and hangout with people that give you energy and joy. If that's your blood family, awesome! If it's not that's ok, too! Get and give love this Easter because why not?!
And if you've been wanting to go to therapy, or start going to a healing group therapy program, this day is divinely guiding you towards that. After all, April is going to be a turbulent time, so no one should be afraid to ask for and get the help they need. If this month draws you towards some type of healing work, know that it was meant to be and not at all a setback or something to be ashamed of.
